Written by Suzy Bickley, fellow Raging Granny:
Phyllis was for years the STAR of Bobfest. Her voice range went from soprano to bass. She could be funny or serious and delighted our audiences. One night, six grannies gathered at my house to plan an event. We were gathered around the dining room table finishing our potluck supper when Phyllis’s phone rang and her dear friend driving across country called in distress. She was out in some area of Nebraska crossing to the West and some guy seemed to be following her. She had miles to go and needed a friend. Phyllis said, “No problem. We shall sing to you til you get to your motel.” And we did. Phyllis started it off with “Danny Boy” and then we followed with lots of Granny Songs to make her laugh. When her friend was safely inside her motel, we resumed our evening. Phyllis made any granny event better.
